CHURCH, Edith Harris, 77, of Marion, passed away Thursday , April 10, 1997, at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey W. Church. CRIST, Claude Walker Jr., 80, of Lexington, died Friday, April 11, 1997, in the Avante Nursing Home, Harrisonburg. Mr. Crist was born on March 12, 1917 in Rockbridge County, and was a son of the late Claude Walker Crist Sr. and Clara Cupp Crist. He was a graduate of the VPI Corps of Cadets and received his Master of Science in Geology from the University of Virginia, and was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Lexington. He loved steam locomotives and antiques. Mr. Crist is survived by a sister-in-law, Ann Finley Crist, Luray; three nephews, John Crist Jr., Blacksburg, Daniel Crist, Harrisonburg, Robert Crist, Charlottesville; one niece, Jeanne Kibler, Stanardsville. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 1997, from the graveside in the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery, Lexington, with Rev. Kenneth Patrick officiating. DILLARD, Elaine Hampton, 76, of 847 Holland Street, Eden, N.C., died Thursday, April 10, 1997, at Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden. Born June 27, 1921, she was a lifelong resident of Eden. She was a member of Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church, Eden. She was also associated with the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Ridgeway, Va. and Sharon Missionary Baptist Church, Stoneville, N.C., where her husband served as pastor. Surviving are her husband, Rev. Jacob Dillard; four daughters, Ms. Ramona Dalton, Raleigh, N.C., Mrs. Andrew (Carol) Wills and Mrs. Charlie (Mary) Belvin, Martinsville, Va., Mrs. Sidney (Peggy) Crumwell, Christiansburg, Va.; an adopted son, Paul R. Dillard, Kent, Wash.; three brothers, Louis Hampton, Wilmington, Del., Walter White, Warner Robbins, Ga., and James White, Montgomery, Ala.; six grandchildren; and one-great-grandchild. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 14, at the Mayo Missionary Baptist Church, Ridgeway, Va. FARLEY, Raymond Ward, 78, of Bedford, passed away Thursday, April 10, 1997, in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Salem. He was born November 23, 1918 in Bedford County, a son of the late William Ward Farley and Birter Jane Hackworth Farley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lou Bohn Farley; and a grandson, Greg Cheek. He was a retired carpenter, a World War II Army veteran, and was a member of the Bedford Moose Lodge #1897. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley P. and Bobby Cheek, Goode; a grandson, Troy Cheek, Bedford; two great-granddaughters, Sidney Cheek, Danielle Cheek, both of Bedford; a great-grandson, Scott Cheek, Bedford; a brother, James Farley, Bedford; three sisters, Thelma Betts, Ruth Blankenship, both of Bedford, Sally Jane Farley, Ukiah, Calif.; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Mary Granger, Florida; and a special nephew, Sherman Blankenship, Bedford. McBRIDE, Lewis Leonard, 81, of Glade Hill, died Friday, April 11, 1997, in the local hospital. He was born August 23, 1915, a son of the late Jim and Nannie Kate McBride, and was preceded in death by five sisters and four brothers. Mr. McBride was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church for 41 years, where he had served as deacon and trustee. Surviving are his wife, Edith G. McBride; one son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Renae McBride, Glade Hill; one daughter and son-in-law, Loretta and Clay Altice, Glade Hill; his grandchildren, Greg and Peggy Altice, Gary and Teresa Altice, Steven McBride, Benjie McBride, Christina McBride; one sister, Sally Maxie, Rocky Mount; a number of nieces and nephews. RUCKER, John H., of Berkeley, Calif., formerly of Fincastle, Va., passed on Tuesday, April 8, 1997, at his home in Berkeley. He was born in Rochester, N.Y., the son of the late Fredrick and Emma Smith Schwonke, and was a U.S. Marine veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Glorena H. ``Gee'' Hancock Schwonke of Roanoke; a daugh ter, Gail Wonderly of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a son, William F. Schwonke of Fort Wayne, Ind.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandsons; one godchild, Michelle Cantrell of Bastian. He was born December 29, 1926 in Martinsville, son of Lera P. Weaver of Martinsville and the late Homer D. Weaver. He was a retired employee from DuPont with 34 years of service, and was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Martinsville, where he served on the official board, as an usher, and was a member of the Smith-Hamilton Bible Class. He is survived by his wife, Betty Warner Weaver of the home; one daughter, Glenda W. Hankins, Axton; one son, Stephen E. Weaver, Clifton Park, N.Y.; three brothers, Milford A.
