Irving J. Galpeer, a lawyer who helped define the investigative and regulatory powers of the Securities and Exchange Commission, has died. He was 87.
Galpeer, who died April 3, served as a top enforcement official, handling a series of fraud cases that helped define the agency's powers.
A 1933 graduate of Harvard Law School, he joined the SEC's legal enforcement staff in 1935 and investigated stock manipulation.
