Avalanche players are at their most productive.
It's hard to say what was most notable about Salem's 8-1 victory Tuesday over the Wilmington Blue Rocks.
Pitchers Scott Randall and Jason Dietrich limited the Blue Rocks to only three hits and struck out 10.
But perhaps upstaging that was 14 hits by Salem batters. Center fielder Garrett Neubart had three hits and scored three times. Right fielder Chad Gambill had three hits and drove in three runs. And left fielder David Feuerstein had two hits and two RBI.
In all, Salem (4-8) had its most productive night of the season both on the mound and at the plate.
Randall (1-1) scattered two hits in six innings, striking out five. His only transgression was a spurt of wildness. He also walked five, hit a batter and uncorked two wild pitches. Dietrich was nearly unhittable, striking out five in relief. NOTE: please see microfilm for statistics.
