THE ROANOKE TIMES' NEW SECTION FOCUSES ON LIFE AT WORK

`At Work' will highlight the places where we spend a third of our day and the folks who make them run

``Funny Business'' takes a peek at the lighter side of the modern workplace and ``Buzzword'' gives you quick definitions on the latest (and most amusing) workplace jargon - and how to use it to your advantage.

Today, we're pleased to introduce a new Thursday section called ``At Work.''

Once a week, you'll see feature stories about all kinds of workers on the job throughout southwestern Virginia. Whether they work for corporations or their own businesses, indoors or out, part-time or full-time, in high-rises or their own homes, they'll appear on these pages.

You'll also see several new columns. ``The Daily Grind,'' by staff writers Leslie Taylor and John Warren, will provide a glimpse into area workplaces and some of the events and issues happening there.

``Funny Business,'' by staff writer John Griessmayer, takes a peek at the lighter side of the modern workplace.

``Buzzword,'' by business editor John Levin, gives you quick definitions on the latest (and most amusing) workplace jargon - and how to use it to your advantage.

``Unclassified'' gives you inside information about jobs from our classified pages.

You'll also see the popular ``Working It Out'' by sociologist Camille Wright Miller of Lexington, which offers advice in response to readers' questions about their jobs. Her column runs Sundays as well.

On Thursdays, "At Work" will be on the section's front page, and Business will start on page 2. Sports will start on the last page.

If you're looking for a career change or for your first job, if you're wondering how to deal with workplace challenges, or if you simply like to read about interesting people, we think you'll enjoy At Work.

We'd like to hear your comments about - and ideas for - our new section. Please call the Reader Comment Line at (540) 981-3173 or (800) 346-1234, ext. 173. We'll see you at the water cooler!
