BLACKSBURG POLICE TO CRACK DOWN ON SPEEDERS TRAFFIC SAFETY GRANT OF $5,000 TO BE USED TO ENFORCE SPEED LIMITS.

Speeders beware, the Blacksburg police are stepping up radar monitoring beginning Wednesday.

The town police received a $5,000 Traffic Safety grant recently from the Department of Motor Vehicles to be used to increase enforcement of speed limits in specific areas of town.

Police said they chose certain streets based on past experience and research that pointed to problem areas with higher than average accident rates or citizen complaints.

Officers will be assigned at varying times to operate radar from Wednesday through May 10 on the following streets: Broce Drive, Grissom Lane, Prices Fork Road (primarily in the area of Kipps Elementary School), McBryde Drive, Huntington Lane, Turner Street, South Main Street, East Roanoke Street (primarily between Main and Owens streets), North Main Street and Patrick Henry Drive.
