Reserve quarterback Dave Meyer, a redshirt freshman from New Jersey, ran for one touchdown and passed for another to highlight Virginia Tech's controlled football scrimmage Wednesday in Blacksburg.
Meyer scored on a 34-yard end sweep and later threw an 80-yard touchdown strike to junior Ken Handy. Meyer completed four of eight passes for 115 yards.
The other score in the scrimmage came via a 2-yard run by tailback Ken Oxendine, who managed just 14 yards on six carries.
Al Clark, the Hokies' No.1 quarterback, had a productive day, completing nine of 18 passes for 125 yards with one interception. Michael Stuewe caught three of the Clark's aerials, totaling 77 yards.
Starting defensive end John Engelberger and reserve Corey Moore led the defense. Engelberger had three sacks and two other tackles for loss, while Moore posted three sacks.
The Hokies conclude spring practice Saturday with the annual Maroon-White game at 2 p.m. at Lane Stadium.
In conjuction with Saturday's game, Tech will stage its Alumni Monogram Club Spring Weekend, with festivities centering on the Hokies' 1986 Peach Bowl champions.
Bill Dooley, who coached the '86 team, and many of his assistant coaches and players will be on hand. A Welcome Back party is planned Friday at the Best Western Red Lion Inn at 7 p.m., and there will a social there following the football game at 6 p.m. Saturday. The weekend activities are open to former Tech athletes in all sports.

W&L women roll|
Anne-Lamar Brown tallied four goals as 13 Washington and Lee players scored as the Generals (11-2, 5-1 ODAC) romped to a 19-1 women's victory at Sweet Briar (0-8, 0-7).
Generals cruise: Senior attackman Ande Jenkins scored seven goals and Colin Dougherty had two goals and four assists as Washington and Lee (9-1) hammered Mary Washington 20-5 in Fredericksburg.
VMI loses: North Carolina scored the last 17 goals and whipped the Keydets 22-2 in Lexington. UNC is 5-6; VMI 1-9.

Taylor announces changes|
Victory Stadium Speedway promoter Danny Taylor announced that Friday's racing card has been postponed until Apr.25 so installation of new sound system may be completed. All tickets for the Apr.25 race will be half-price, Taylor said.

Radford beats UNC|
Radford rode a 15-hit attack to an 8-4 triumph over North Carolina in a college game played in Chapel Hill, N.C. Six different Highlanders had two hits, highlighted by Shane Reed and Jeff Collins, who each hit solo homers.
VMI splits twinbill: Ben Bradford and Nate Shepperson each hit three-run homers to lead VMI (13-30) to a 15-5 victory in game one and a split of a doubleheader with visiting Howard. The Bison won the second game, 7-6.
Tech loses again: Virginia Commonwealth pulled away from Virginia Tech with four runs in the seventh inning to beat the Hokies 11-7 in Richmond. Virginia Tech (20-22) lost its fourth straight decision as the Rams (22-16) battered Tech pitching for 14 hits. The Hokies got three hits from shortstop Kevin Kurilla and three RBI from outfielder Matt Griswold.

Hokies split doubleheader|
Virginia Tech pounded out 30 hits as it split a doubleheader with Winthrop in Blacksburg. The Eagles (11-30) took advantage of six Tech errors to take the first game, 8-3. The Hokies (19-26) won the second game 10-6 behind a 17-hit attack and Michelle Johnson's route-going seven-hitter.
