First American Corp. of Nashville, Tenn., announced a 2-for-1 stock split which will be issued May 9 to shareholders on April 28. Shareholders will receive one additional share for each share owned. On a pre-split basis, the bank holding company will increase the quarterly dividend by 29 percent from 31 cents to 40 cents a share. It will be payable May 30 to shareholders of record May 15. After the split, the dividend will be 20 cents a share.

LADD Furniture Inc.

High Point, N.C.-based LADD makes residential furniture. The 1996 first-quarter loss included a $7.2 million in losses and restructuring charges connected with the divesting of two companies. The first-quarter 1997 sales decline also reflects the divestiture.

Media General Inc.
