Sunday the New River Valley should look a whole lot cleaner - four counties are holding annual clean-up days on Saturday.
Montgomery County will begin Broomin' and Bloomin' at 7 a.m. All volunteers will receive a Broomin' and Bloomin' T-shirt and an invitation to a free picnic. Even state Secretary of Natural Resources Becky Norton Dunlop will be getting in on the action. She is scheduled to help clean up the Huckleberry Trail in the Merrimac community with other volunteers this morning.
Floyd County is seeking individuals as well as groups for its Green and Clean Day. Individuals can meet at the Jacksonville Center at 8 a.m. to join dump-site cleanup teams. Groups can be organized to clean roadways. After the cleanup, a picnic will be held.
Giles County will make a Clean Sweep on Saturday. After cleaning from 9 a.m. to noon, volunteers will be treated to a picnic at 1 p.m. and will receive a free T-shirt.
Pulaski is holding cleanups each weekend until the end of April. The town and county are working jointly on the project. To volunteer call Larry Vest at 674-8667.
