Doug Knight's four goals and three assists led second-ranked Virginia to a 17-13 victory over North Carolina in the ACC lacrosse semifinals Friday in Charlottesville.
The top-seeded Cavaliers (9-2) will face Duke (8-2) Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Klockner Stadium. Second-seeded Duke beat Maryland (6-4) 17-10 in the other semifinal.
Knight scored three times and had two of his assists in the second half as Virginia broke from an 8-7 halftime lead.
UNC (5-7) pulled to 14-12 five minutes into the final period with two extra-man goals before Virginia pulled away.
BASEBALL
Ferrum eliminated
North Carolina Wesleyan used a six-run sixth inning to eliminate Ferrum 14-9 in the Dixie Conference semifinals in Danville.
The 17th-ranked Panthers (23-9) scored two runs on a two-run homer by Ty Mason in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-5 lead. The third-ranked Bishops (30-4) came back and took command in the top of the sixth.
Wesleyan plays in the championship today against the Greensboro-Methodist winner.
SOFTBALL
Radford swept by Liberty
Liberty University grabbed big leads in both games and held on to sweep a Big South Conference doubleheader over Radford, winning 4-3 and 10-7 in Radford.
The Flames took a 4-0 lead in the first game before the Highlanders rallied on a three-run homer by Chassity Chronick in the bottom of the fourth.
The Highlanders (22-28, 2-10) came back in the second game to cut a five-run deficit to 7-6 in the third. The Flames pulled away with a three-run fifth.
TENNIS
Tech foes determined
The nationally-ranked Virginia Tech men's and women's tennis teams will try to live up to their top seedings today at the Atlantic 10 Conference championships, which were moved indoors because of blustery conditions.
The 34th-ranked Tech women (16-3) face eighth-seeded Duquensne, a 4-3 winner over Fordham in the first round. The Hokies' men's team, ranked 21st in the country, will play Dayton, which defeated Fordham 4-3.
The A-10 tournaments continue today and Sunday, beginning at 8 a.m. at Virginia Tech's Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center and the Cassell Coliseum Courts.
Big South honors: Radford University's Heskia Dil and Safaa Najdl earned Big South Conference women's tennis honors. Dil was named the Scholar Athlete of the Year, and Najdl was selected to the all-conference singles team.
