Olver names new chief operation officer

BLACKSBURG - Timothy F. Hunt Jr. has been named chief operating officer and executive vice president of Olver Inc., a consulting and environmental engineering firm.

Prior to joining Olver, Hunt served as southeast area manager for EMCON and as the executive director of the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County, Fla. He has also served as the international president of the Solid Waste Association of North America.

Olver has also named new directors of marketing and geology.

Heather D. Browning, recently named marketing director, is a graduate of Radford University. Timothy A. Loveday, the new director of geological services, has been with Olver since 1990 and is also a Radford graduate.

First National Bank appoints new officers

CHRISTIANSBURG - First National Bank has two new senior vice presidents, Bruce Munro and Litz Van Dyke.

Munro recently joined the bank as chief credit administration officer. He has 26 years of experience in the financial field and has degrees from Palm Beach Junior College, the University of Wisconsin and Rutgers University. Munro and his wife live in Roanoke.

Van Dyke was recently promoted to the position of manager of commercial banking. He first joined the bank in 1989 as a commercial loan officer. Originally from Tazewell, he is a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College and the American and Virginia Banker's Association schools of bank management.

Van Dyke is also on the board of directors of the Christiansburg-Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, where he serves as vice president and treasurer. Van Dyke lives in Christiansburg with his wife and three sons.

Christiansburg firm buys company

CHRISTIANSBURG - Comprehensive Computer Solutions announced recently that it had acquired Network Design Systems for an undisclosed amount.

Network Design Systems is a network integration and installation company with clients around the world and nearly $1 million in revenue in 1996. Comprehensive Computer Solutions is an authorized dealer for six leading computer and software manufacturers and had revenues of more than $7 million in 1996.

Network Design Systems founder and president William Carlson, who established the company in 1992 as a consulting firm, said he would move on to other opportunities. Two employees, Bob Carlson, an account representative, and Joe Custer, a support engineer, will join Comprehensive Computer Solutions.

Area bank to open two new branches

WYTHEVILLE - Blue Ridge Bank has received regulatory permission to open a branch office in Wytheville at 325 Spring St. The bank, which has branches in Blacksburg, Radford Christiansburg and Floyd, has also received permission to open a branch in Bristol.

Mechanical engineering classes offered

BLACKSBURG - The mechanical engineering department of Virginia Tech has announced a series of short courses for spring and summer. Topics include compressed air, motors, energy management and industrial refrigeration. For more information, call 231-5182.

Nominations sought for small business awards

BLACKSBURG - The Retail Merchants Committee of the Blacksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for the Eugene Jones Small Business Service Award and the Small Business Person of the Year. The awards will be presented at a luncheon May 13. For more information, call 552-4503.

Microsoft lecturers to hold seminar

BLACKSBURG - Lecturers from Microsoft will present a seminar on educational computer technology Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Donaldson Brown Center at Virginia Tech. The seminar, which is sponsored by Comprehensive Computer Systems, is free but registration is required. For more information, call 382-4234, ext 114.

Secretaries group to meet

BLACKSBURG - The New River Valley Chapter of Professional Secretaries International will be holding its annual seminar Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Donaldson Brown Center at Virginia Tech.
