BISHOP, Harold Jackson, (``Jack""), 66, of Christiansburg, died Friday, April 18, 1997, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Madeline Bishop; two daughters and a son-in-law, Rhonda and Mike Saylors, and Melissa Bishop; two grandchildren, Aaron Saylors and Adam Saylors, and one special aunt, Elizabeth Thompson. CAMPBELL, Eileen Shaffer, 77, of Roanoke County, died Friday, April 18, 1997, at her home. She was born July 21, 1919, in Beckley, W.Va., a daughter of the late Gertrude Shaffer and R. H. Shaffer, of Huntington, W.Va. She was predeceased by her husband, Chester H. Campbell. She is survived by her son, James I. Campbell, Roanoke County; a sister, Mrs. L. S. Hart, Richardson, Texas; a niece, Candace Therriault; a nephew, David Hart; one aunt, Mr s. Ilda Johnson, St. Petersburg, Fla. She was a member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church. GILLOCK, Opal Black, 93, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, April 18, 1997 in the Roanoke United Methodist Home. She was born in Staunton, Va. on April 7, 1904 and was a daughter of the late Walter A. Black and Alice Thurber Black. She was the widow of Joseph Howard Gillock, Sr. and was predeceased by a son, Gene Maurice Gillock. Mrs. Gillock was a long-time member and Sunday School teacher at Highland Park United Methodist Church. Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law, H. Leon and Violet W. Gillock, Roanoke, Richard E. and Jane M. Gillock, Salem, Wesley D. and Gale B. Gillock, Roanoke, Joseph H. and Sharon C. Gillock, Roanoke; nine grandchildren and their families, Carol Ann G. Gallagher, Charlotte, N.C., Ellen G. Thompson, Stewartsville, Diane G. Power, Indianapolis, Ind., Kathryn G. Martin, Winston-Salem, N.C., Dr. C. HAASE, John Frederick, 86, of Roanoke, died in Myrtle Beach, S.C., on Friday, April 18, 1997. He was born in Roanoke on March 18, 1911. He retired from the Norfolk and Western Railway in 1973, where he worked all of his life except for a period of service during World War II when he served as an Army Colonel in Europe. He was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church and Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church. Fred was a devoted brother, husband and father. He was a beloved friend to many in Roanoke during his life, as well as to those with whom he worked in Virginia, West Virginia and Ohio. If one statement could summarize Fred's life, it would be that ``he never knew a stranger."" Fred was preceded in death by his dear wife, Margaret; brothers, William, Sylvester and Louis Haase, and sisters, Florence Poett and Madeline Haase. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Kate of Miami, Fla., Joseph and Petie of Columbus, Ohio, and John and Pam of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandchildren, Michael, Laura, Gretchen, Andrew, Kelly and Lori, and sisters-in-law, Edna Haase of Roanoke and Yhome Murphy of Vinton, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A prayer service will be at Oakey's South Chapel at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 21, 1997. Mass of the Resurrection will be at St. Andrew's Catholic Church at 12 noon Tuesday, April 22, 1997. The Rev. HARVEY, Miriam S., 79, of Roanoke, died Friday, April 18, 1997 at her residence. She was a member of Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church. Surviving are her husband of nearly 56 years, Andrew M. (Mike) Harvey, Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Jay Sellers; son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Margaret Harvey; also four granddaughters, Lori Sellers, Stephanie, Emily and Jennifer Harvey, all of Roanoke; sister-in-law and nephew, Mrs. Erica Young and David, Radford; sister-in-law and nieces, Mrs. Lois Harvey, Anne and Ellen, Alma, Ga.; cousins, Bill and Joan Johnson, Roanoke. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday, April 21, 1997 in the West View Cemetery, Radford. JAMISON, Nannie Kate Cobler, 95, of Route 2, Box 402, Martinsville, died Friday, April 18, 1997, in Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. Born on August 28, 1901, in Franklin County, she was a daughter of the late John Edward Cobler and Mollie Merriman Cobler. She was a longtime member and the oldest member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, where she also was a member of the Ella Craig Bible Class and a charter member of the Methodist Womens Group. She was presented a Life Membership pin of the Womens Group in 1968. Mrs. Jamison was a charter member of Pleasant Grove Homemakers Club and the Community Improvement Club. She also was a longtime member of the Snow Creek Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lewis Jamison, on January 16, 1958; by a son, James Lewis Jamison, on August 28, 1944; by a brother, Willie S. Cobler, and by three grandsons, John Jamison, on October 21, 1994, Robert Jamison, on January 6, 1995, and Baby Jamison. Mrs. Jamison is survived by four sons, John Pete Jamison, Robert Edgar Jamison, Ray Cobler Jamison and David Randolph Jamison, all of Martinsville; a brother, Abraham L. Cobler of Martinsville; a sister, Mrs. Clara C. Gryzt of Martinsville; nine grandchildren, Sandra Pulliam, Sheila Jamison, Jimmy Jamison, Vanessa Riddle, David Jamison, Lisa Holcomb, Pamela Jamison, Jeannie Carpenter and Lynn Grindstaff, and nine great-grandchildren, Blake Holcomb, Beth Holcomb, Rebecca Carpenter, Jamie Jami son, Julie Jamison, Josey Jamison, Kati Grindstaff, Katelyn Riddle and Kyle Grindstaff. Funeral services for Mrs. Jamison will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 20, 1997, at Norris Funeral Services Chapel by the Rev. Steve Propst. Burial will be in the Jamison Family Cemetery at Figsboro. JONES, Sam, 80, of Buchanan, passed away Friday, April 18, 1997. He is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Ruby Rice, Springwood, Faye and Carroll Lyle, Nancy Horn, all of Roanoke; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Leigh Jones, Vinton; one sister, Margaret Wright, Lexington; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. KESLER, Myrtle Harrison, 94, of Front Royal, passed away Friday, April 18, 1997. She was a native of Salem, a member of First Baptist Church of Front Royal and a member of Order of the Eastern Star #6 of Front Royal. She and her husband spent many years together working on their family farm in Front Royal and wintering in Florida. Mrs. Kesler was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, William F. (``Jerry"") Kesler; daughters, Frances Woods, Louvada Sutton and Margaret Kesler. She is survived by her sons, Dr. Robert M. Kesler and William F. Kesler; daughter, Norma Jean Oakes; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, April 21, 1997, from the Chapel of John M. LAWHORN, Nora Powers, 94, of Goodview, passed away Saturday morning, April 19, 1997, in a local hospital. She was predeceased by her husband, William D. Lawhorn, and a son, Alvin W. L awhorn. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Calvin C. and Phyllis Lawhorn of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter-in-law, Margaret C. Lawhorn of Vinton; three grandchildren, Brenda Gayle Lawhorn, Pamela Lawhorn Sauer and Joyce Lawhorn Sexton; six great-grandchildren, Kevin Wheeler, Kristie Thompson, Sherry Simmons, Trena Simmons, Kimberly Sexton and Christopher Sexton, and two great-great-grandchildren, Kayla Wheeler and Arissa Thompson. MALOUF, Fannie F., 94, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, April 19, 1997. She was the widow of N. D. (Joe) Malouf, as well as the mother of the late Evelyn M. Silek. She was preceded in death by a sister, Victoria F. Saleeba and a brother, Richard S. Ferris. She was also a retired merchant of 50 years. Surviving are a son, Philip J. Malouf and daughter-in-law, Helen K. Malouf, both of Roanoke; a daughter, Adrian M. Hopper and son-in-law, Benton C. Hopper, both of Roanoke; brother, Ellis S. Ferris and his wife, Yvonne, both of Roanoke; sisters, Rose F. Doss, Roanoke, Freeda F. Assaid, Roanoke and Lourice F. Thomas and her husband, M. Patrick, of Roanoke; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a beloved friend, (Karen). RICHARDSON, Luther W., 87, of Christiansburg, answered the call from his Lord and Savior on Friday night, April 18, 1997 and gently departed this life. He was a loyal and dedicated worker in the First Church of God and served for many years as the choir director. Luther will be remembered by many for his love of the Lord and his witness to all with his beautiful voice singing praises to Him. He retired from the Norfolk & Western Railroad after fifty years service. He will be missed by all who knew him, but we know that, being a Servant of God, he is now reaping his rewards. Surviving are his wife, Lethie Overstreet Richardson; a stepdaughter, Phyllis O. McCormick, Radford; two brothers, Samuel Richardson and Edward J. Richardson, both of Shawsville; two sisters, Margaret Williams, Shawsville, Josephine Knox, Seaford, Va.; a stepgranddaughter and her husband, Becky and Douglas Layne of Locustville; a stepgrandson, Bradford McCormick, Radford; stepgreat-grandson, Justin McKinney, Locustville; several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Monday from the First Church of God on Canaan Road, conducted by the Rev. Max Nichols. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery. ROBERTS, Dorothy Farmer, 62, of Salem, passed away Friday, April 18, 1997. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Crawford Roberts Sr. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Buddy and April D. Roberts; a daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Avery D. Stevens; grandchildren, Cynthia and Daniel Stevens, and Jacob Roberts; a companion, Willie Jenkins, and a number of brothers and sisters. SAUNDERS, Clinton Thomas, (``Pop''), 81, of Moneta, passed away Thursday, April 17, 1997, in the Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He was born January 6, 1916 in Bedford County, a son of the late Escar T. Saunders and Julie Frances Miller Saunde rs. He was a retired employee of Rubatex, and was also a retired farmer. He was a World War II veteran, and a member of the Staunton Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Angie Pearl Martin Saunders. He is survived by a son, Kenneth Saunders, Lynchburg; two daughters, Betty S. Ashwell, Huddleston, Patsy S. Robertson, Moneta, and formerly of Lynchburg; a stepson, James Monroe Brown, Bedford; a sister, Bertie Trent, Lynchburg; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, April 20, 1997, at 2 p.m. from the Updike Funeral Chapel, Huddleston, by the Rev. Dr. Frank J. Schmitt.
