The Troutville woman, 18, probably died Saturday night, police say. Her overturned car had gone over an embankment.
State police found the body of an 18-year-old Troutville woman Sunday evening in her overturned car, which had wrecked hours earlier on a rural road in Montgomery County.
Monica Stevens' car had struck a tree on Virginia 637 near Shawsville, then flipped over and slid down an embankment, state police said. The accident probably happened in the dark, either Saturday night or early Sunday, and went unnoticed until a passer-by saw skid marks and stopped to investigate about 6 p.m.
Stevens' car went off the right side of the road,. She may have overcorrected, because the car then veered to the left before hitting the tree, state police said. Based on the damage, police think the teen-ager had been exceeding the 35 mph speed limit.
Stevens, who was wearing a seat belt, probably died shortly after the accident, state police said.
