BISHOP, Harold Jackson, (``Jack""), 66, of Christiansburg, died Friday, April 18, 1997. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday from the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Mike Bond. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Richardson-Horne.

BOOZE, Patrick T., 45, of Roanoke, died Friday, April 18, 1997. Mr. Booze was a U.S. Army veteran, serving three tours in Vietnam. He will be sadly missed by his family. He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard W. Booze. He is survived by his mother, Lutie M. (``Peggy"") Booze; a sister, Nicole Booze, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 1997, at Oakey's North Chapel, with Pastor Kelly Sisson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Glade Baptist Church in Blacksburg.

BOWMAN, Conard O. Sr., (``Smokey""), 77, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, April 18, 1997, at his home. He was a Blue Lodge Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies. Mr. Bowman was a retired truck driver from Yellow Freight Lines. He was predeceased by his wife, Mildred Booth Bowman. Surviving are a son, C. O. Bowman, Jr., Salem; a daughter, Phyllis Bowman, Roanoke; a granddaughter, Amanda Bowman; two sisters, Polly Serjeant and Judy Yanish, both of Baltimore, Md.; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 1997, in Elizabeth Cemetery, Saltville, Va. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Oakey's North Chapel, Roanoke.

CLARK, Elizabeth Kaye, 51, of Roanoke, died Saturday, April 19, 1997. She was a member of Edgewood Christian Church. Surviving are her husband, Paul Clark, Sr.; son, Paul Clark Jr. and his wife, Paulette; son, Jonathan Clark, all of Roanoke; mother, Kathryn Spencer Cahoon, Swan Quarter, N.C.; sister, Anna Spencer Smith, Chesapeake; sisters-in-law, Judy Sellers, Tuscaloosa, Ala., Sandra Herrin, Isle of Wight. Funeral services will be at Scranton Christian Church in Scranton, N.C. at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment will follow in Soule Cemetery. CROCKETT, Ethel Margaret Reynolds, 87, of Rt. 1, Max Meadows, died Saturday, April 19, 1997 in the Smyth County Community Hospital. She was born in Wythe County, the daughter of the late Ewell B., Sr. and Maude Coleman Reynolds. She was a member of the Brick United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Drake Crockett and a son, Eugene Leo Crockett. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Hubert Surratt of Rt. 2, Max Meadows; three sons and daughters-in-law, Cecil D., Jr. and Aline Crockett of Salem, Donald H. Sr. and Mary Crockett of Rt. 2, Wytheville, Stephen S. ``Sandy"" and Joyce Crockett of Rt. 1, Max Meadows; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rachel Cline, Kathryn Thompson, both of Wytheville, Dorothy Richenbacher, Manheim, Penn.; two brothers, Eldridge Reynolds, Austinville and Billy Reynolds of Max Meadows. DOWNEY, Porter Roscoe, 85, of 25 7th St. N.W., Pulaski, died Sunday, April 20, 1997 in Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Va. Born October 10, 1911 in Craig Co., Va., he was the son of the late Samu el Stuart Downey and Odell Scott Downey. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia McCaffrey. Mr. Downey was a retired salesman with Keskie Paper Company for 25 year, a member of the First United Methodist Church,and a veteran of the U. S. Navy in World War II. He is survived by his wife, Frances Dennis Downey; one daughter, Mrs. Priscilla D. Doeppe, Kilmarnock, Va.; two sons, Porter R. (Sam) Downey, Bellaire Beach, Fla., Peter L. Downey, Colonial Heights, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Oakwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Norman C. Wilhoit officiating. Visiting will be Tuesday morning from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home.

GILLISPIE, Walter Clarence, (``Sonny""), 66, of Christiansburg, died Friday, April 18, 1997 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. He retired from the Security Department at V.P.I & S.U. with 25 years service and also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 21, 1997 at 1 p.m. in the Blacksburg Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), with the Rev. Johnny Loughridge officiating. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Joseph L. and Debbie Divers of Salem; two daughters and a son-in-law, Irene Mason of Roanoke, and Brenda and Tim Peters of Buchanan; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. LAVENDER, Roberta Mae, (``Sissy""), of Roanoke, passed away to the Lord on Sunday, April 20, 1997. Mrs. Lavender was preceded in death by her husband, James P. (``Pug"") Lavender; a brother, Fred (``Punkin"") Thompson, and a sister, Christine (``Chug"") Caldwell. Surviving are three children, James (``Jimmy"") Lavender and Jean of Phoenix, Ariz., Patricia Ann Madewell and Hershell of McMinnville, Tenn., and Betty Jean Lavender and Archie of Roanoke; a brother, Roy O. (``Buck"") Thompson Jr. of Charleston, S.C.; sisters, Doris (``Dada"") Caldwell and Elizabeth (``Teeny"") Poff, both of Roanoke; a brother-in-law, Charles (``Junior"") Caldwell of Roanoke; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. LOONEY, Ramona Jones, (``Polly""), 74, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 19, 1997. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred Cleve and Gay Spang ler Jones; an infant son, Larry Thomas Looney, and a brother, Alfred Granville Jones. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 56 years, Hubert H. Looney; her sons and daughter-in-law, Houston J. and Carolyn Looney of Bedford County, Alfred (``Al"") Lee Looney of Roanoke and Wm. Richard and Beth Looney of Roanoke County; her grandchildren, Heather, Brian and Amy Looney; a great-grandson, Brandon Scott, and her sisters, Mrs. Virginia Nichols of Moneta, Mrs. Garnett Kirk of Roanoke and Mrs. Geneva Bowers of Bedford County. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's Vinton Chapel Tuesday, April 22, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Calvin B. Fulton and the Rev. Sam Crews officiating. MARSHALL, Gary Christopher, 48, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, April 18, 1997. Gary was an outdoorsman who loved camping and fishing. He was a Viet Nam war veteran who served proudly in the Marines, receiving numerous honors. Gary is happily remembered by his father, James E. Marshall, and his mother, Nina Hundley Marshall; three brothers, James, Sherwin and Timothy; three sisters, Nina McCormick, Emilie Owen and Kim Martin; three nephews, Thomas A. Collins, III, Richard C. Owen and A. J. Collins; three nieces, Piper Morris, Ginny Marshall and Sierra Rock; three brothers-in-law, Clark Owen, Jr., Roy L. McCormick, Jr. and David Martin; the rest of the family and all of his friends. A private family memorial will be held. The family would like to thank two very brave brothers, Jesse and Nathan Foutz, who tried to rescue Gary. We would like to also thank the Huddleston Rescue Squad, Scruggs Diving Team, the Va. Game Wardens and everyone involved in the search and recovery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Huddleston Rescue Squad and the Scruggs Diving Team. Gary's remains will be placed in Arlington National Cemetery.

NUCKOLES, Richard C., (``Cartie""), 81, of Churchville, died Sunday, April 20, 1997 in Roanoke Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was bor n April 12, 1916 in Augusta County to the late Ashby and Katie Harris Nuckoles. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Nuckoles and a son, Richard C. ``Butchie"" Nuckoles, Jr. Prior to retirement he owned and operated Richard's Barber Shop in Silver Spring, Md. and later operated his own trucking business in Silver Spring. Survivors include one sister, Ethel N. Mundy of Glasgow; two brothers, Oliver and Gilmer Nuckoles, both of Staunton; two grandchildren, Marie Harrison and Richard ``Rickie"" Rankin; special nieces and nephews; and special friends, Joyce and Carroll Eckard of Churchville. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bear Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Memory Gardens, Staunton. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Bear Funeral Home, Churchville, and other times today at the residence in Churchville.

OVERSTREET, Clarence Virgil, 94, of Bedford, passed away Saturday, April 19, 1997 in the Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He was born December 226, 1902 in Bedford County, a son of the late Albert Gordon Overstreet and Mary Lucy Dooley Overstreet. His wife was the late Maggie Elizabeth Orange Overstreet. He was a member of the Christian Life Ministries. He is survived by two sons, Virgil Clifton Overstreet, Gary Martin Overstreet, both of Bedford; two brothers, Thomas A. Overstreet, Roanoke, Eddie J. Overstreet, Hardy; four sisters, Nannie Bernice Niday, Bluefield, W. Va., Lucy Pearl Kingery, Mary Jerline Divers, both of Vinton, Frances Elizabeth Thibeau, Harrington, Maine; one grandchild; three great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday, April 22, 1997, at 2 p.m. from the Virginia Memorial Park, by the Rev. Edward A. Richardson. STEVENS, Myra Vinnie, 85, of Fincastle, passed away Sunday, April 20, 1997. She was a lifelong member of Mill Creek Baptist Church and was well known in the community for the beauty of her quilting. She is survived by one sister, Irmyr S. Harnsberger, Newport News; one nephew, Stuart C. Reedy and wife Sandra, of Locust Grove; three great-nieces; and five great-nephews. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 1997, at the Mill Creek Cemetery, with the Rev. Marsha Davidson officiating. STEVENS , Ollie Lacy, 96, of Lynch Station, passed away Sunday, April 20,1 997 in the Bedford County Memorial Hospital. She was born April 30, 1900 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Edwin Lee Lacy and Fannie Smith Lacy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond David Stevens, and a son, Carlton David Stevens. She was a life-long member of the Independence United Methodist Church. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Frances S. and Lewis Dowdy, Lynch Station, Estelle S. and William J. Conner, Betty S. and Aubrey Blanks, both of Lynchburg; a daughter-in-law, Fay Nichols Stevens, Lynch Station; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. TINSLEY, Anne Fisher, 76, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday evening, April 19, 1997. She was a lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church. Mrs. Tinsley was the widow of Marvin Q. Tinsley Sr., and was also predeceased by her grandson, Timothy M. Jones. She was retired from the VA Medical Center. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Marvin Q. Jr. and Sharon S. Tinsley of Amherst, Va.; a daughter and son-in-law, Sue T. and Ken M. Jones of Yorktown; six grandchildren, Clay and Sara Tinsley, Marshall Tinsley, Christopher Jones, Benjamin Jones and Amy Jones. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday from Christ Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Deborah Hunley officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. TUCKER, Howard Neely, 78, of Radford, passed away Saturday, April 1 9, 1997 at his residence. Born in Taylor Co., W.Va. on October 27, 1918, he was the son of the late Martin Van Buren and Viola Knight Tucker. He was a retired auto mechanic with Hercules in Radford with 37 years of service. He was a member of the Mountain View United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Crawford Tucker and one son, Jerry E. Tucker. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Alice D. Tucker of Winston-Salem, N.C., Mrs. Deborah T. Cox of Rural Hall, N.C.; three sons, John H. Tucker of Cary, N.C., Norman W. Tucker of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Warren D. Tucker of Radford; two sisters, Mrs. Beulah Mahaffey and Mrs. Lelah Tucker, both of Grafton, W. Va.; ten grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 22, 1997 at 11 a.m. at the Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home in Radford, with the Rev. Barry L. Taylor officiating. TUCKER, Julia Mae, 89, of Blacksburg, died Saturday, April 19, 1997, in Salem Health and Rehabilitation Center. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Austin-McCombs of Blacksburg and Jacquelyn Zerick of Walland, Tenn.; a son, Merwin Tucker of Horseshoe Bend, Ark.; eight grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. WEBB, Katie Foster, 94, of Christiansburg, died Saturday, April 19, 1997, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home. She was born on March 1, 1903, to the late Lorn L. and Martha Troutt Lugar in Craig County. She was a longtime member of Main Street Baptist Church in Christiansburg. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas L. Foster and M. Frank Webb; two daughters, Lucy Foster and Frances Foster Jones; a granddaughter, Brenda Lynn Jones; a sister, Thelma Layman, and a brother, Frank Lugar. Survivors include five daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Howard Smith of Paint Bank, Norine and Kenneth Wills Sr. of Christiansburg, Mae and Eugene Helems of New Castle, Mary and Harry Taylor of Newport, and Eva and Art Daniel of Emerald Isle, N.C.; a son-in-law, Lyman J. Jones Sr. of Christiansburg; a stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Zana and Frances Albert of McCoy; two stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Kelly and Martha Webb of Concord and Willis and Virginia Webb of Christiansburg; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; 12 stepgrandchildren; 19 stepgreat-grandchildren; two stepgreat-great-grandchildren; a sister, Maude Humphreys of Salem; two nieces, and three nephews.
