STUDENT SEEKS TO EXPAND BOUNDARIES

Virtual audience to interact with drama student's final project.

A Virginia Tech graduate student is inviting the whole world to a multimedia performance tonight and Wednesday.

The members of the actual audience will be joined by a virtual audience of people tuning in from all over the globe.

The performances, entitled MobiusTrip, are being "webcast" on the Internet, allowing anyone with a computer and modem to be in the audience. Not only will the audience see the performers, but the performers will be able to see the audience.

The performance is the culmination of work by J. Matthew Saunders, a theater student who sees the Internet as a great tool for sharing ideas.

"This is different than broadcast," he says. "This is different from live."

The free performances begin each night at 8 in the Performing Arts Building at Virginia Tech. The webcast begins at 8 p.m. also, but those who want to participate should visit Saunder's website (http://dogstar.bevd.blacksburg.va.us/mobius/mobius.html) ahead of time to be sure they have the proper software installed. A fast Internet connection is suggested for a full experience.
