PUBLIC PULSE

Upcoming:

Blacksburg Town Council will hold a public hearing tonight on the revision of the town's zoning laws. The meeting, in the Municipal Building, 300 S. Main St., starts at 7:30.

Since its last public hearing, March 11, Town Council has held two work sessions - March 25 and April 1 - to discuss concerns raised at the hearing.

One of the few areas on which Town Council has not reached preliminary agreement is the two-block area near Lee Street, bounded by Prospect, Piedmont and Washington streets. The question is whether to make this area low-density, multiunit residential or transitional residential.

Christiansburg Town Council will hold a special meeting at 7 tonight to discuss submitting another bid for the post office building and site. While most of the discussion is expected to take place in a closed-door session, council may take action on the issue after returning to an open session.

New River Valley Community Services will hold a public hearing from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Landmark Building, 644 First St. in Radford. Comments on services and needs in the New River Valley gathered at the meeting will be incorporated into the Virginia Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services' 1998-2004 Comprehensive Plan. Written comments may be submitted by May 1 to the NRVCS at 210 Third Ave., Radford, VA 24141. Call the agency at 831-5908 for more information.
