Tom Dudley fired a 70 and T.J. Wagner a 71 to spark Washington and Lee to a six-stroke lead Monday through the first round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference men's golf tournament at The Crossings in Glen Allen.
Led by Dudley and Wagner, who posted the low two rounds of the day, the Generals finished with a 302 team total, six shots ahead of Guilford. Hampden-Sydney is third, at 318, followed by Randolph-Macon (327) and Roanoke (330).
The final round of the event will be played today.
TENNIS
Radford player honored
Radford's Heskia Dil, was named the Big South Conference's Scholar Athlete of the Year in women's tennis, based on her outstanding performance on the courts and in the classroom.
Dil, a junior, posted an 11-6 record as the Highlanders' No.2 singles player. She recorded a 3.7 grade-point average as a business major.
Radford's No.1 player, Safaa Najdi of Morocco, was named to the All-Big South team after posting a 12-6 record this spring.
SWIMMING
UVa sophomore places
Virginia sophomore Shamek Pietucha finished fourth in the 200-meter butterfly at the World Short Course Championship in Sweden.
The Alberta native won All-America honors for the Cavaliers this past season, placing fourth at the NCAA Championship in the 200 yard butterfly.
SOFTBALL
Ferrum, Roanoke split
Marcee Hufton (William Byrd) scattered 10 hits in seven innings to lead Roanoke to a 4-1 victory over visiting Ferrum in the first game of a doubleheader.
In the nightcap, Shannon Jost, Ferrum's only senior, homered in her final college at-bat and knocked in five runs to lead the Panthers to a 17-1 romp.
Ferrum is 18-24; Roanoke 10-24.
