Arbor Day, which will occur Saturday, means planting new trees, caring for old trees and visiting with a famous owl in Blacksburg's Municipal Park.
Woodsie Owl will be on hand, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. as the town plants trees in the new addition to the park on Patrick Henry Drive.
Landscapers and other tree experts will demonstrate various skills, including tree planting at 10 a.m., a plant clinic at 11 a.m., composting at 11 a.m. and tree removal at 11:40 a.m.
Children's activities begin at 10:45 a.m. At noon Mayor Roger Hedgepeth will officiate at a ceremonial tree planting. At 12:30 p.m. Arbor Day cake will be served and the winners of the poster contest will be announced.
