Applicants sought for boards and commissions

CHRISTIANSBURG - Incumbents and interested Montgomery County citizens may apply for appointments to the boards of the Human Services Commission and the Planning Commission to be made by the Board of Supervisors of Montgomery County.

County citizens who are registered voters and in good tax standing should submit a letter of intent and a resume to Jeffrey D. Johnson, County Administrator, P.O. Box 806, Christiansburg, Virginia, 24073-0806, by Monday, May 19.

Four three-year appointments are available on the Human Services Commission, which is composed of human service agencies and interested citizens meeting to share information and support for human service groups. Meetings are held the fourth Thursdays of September, December, February and May at 9:30 a.m., at the Presbyterian Church, Christiansburg.

Four four-year appointments are available on the Planning Commission, which advises the Board of Supervisors on issues such as zoning requests and guides the county in long-term planning and growth. Meetings are held the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. Joint public hearings with the Board of Supervisors are held the fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the courthouse.

Library computer classes

CHRISTIANSBURG - The Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library is offering classes to the public on the use of the library's computerized card catalog.

The classes are designed for patrons with little or no computer skills.

Classes are held every weekday at 10 a.m. at both the Christiansburg and Blacksburg branches and Wednesdays at 2 p.m. at the Floyd branch. Classes can be held on Saturdays by special arrangement at some branches.
