Mill Mountain's Hodgin is conference president

Jere Lee Hodgin the artistic and executive director of Mill Mountain Theatre recently was elected president of the Southeastern Theatre Conference, a service organization for individuals and organizations in the theater.

Hodgin has served on the group's advisory council, playwriting committee and board of directors. He also served as program chair for the SETC's March 1997 convention in Miami.

Gillespie to lecture

Dorothy Gillespie, a Roanoke native and New York artist, will speak May 1 at 7 p.m. in Radford University's Preston Auditorium.

Hall of Fame names Boucher

ABINGDON - The National Women's Hall of Fame has added Abingdon lawyer Dorothy Buck Boucher to its Wall of Fame for her community involvement over the past 60 years.

A plaque bearing her name is now at the National Women's Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls, N.Y., where Elizabeth Cady Stanton and 300 others held the first women's rights convention in 1848. Other honorees have included women's rights activist Susan B. Anthony, astronaut Sally Ride, athlete Billy Jean King, jurist Sandra Day O'Connor and writer Louisa May Alcott. The Hall of Fame was established in 1969.

Senior van tours

AUSTINVILLE - New River Trail State Park will offer senior van tours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 7 and May 14, each covering 37 miles of trail and views of New River, Chestnut Creek and Claytor Lake.

An interpretive map is included. Rangers will be available to answer questions.

The cost is $25 per person, and covers the map and a box lunch. Participants must be 55 or older. Tours begin and end at Shot Tower Historical State Park. Further information and reservations are available by calling 699-6778.
