BOWLING, Gary Edwards, 54, of Ferrum, died Tuesday, April 22, 1997, at his residence. COX, Virginia L., 77, of Dover, Ohio, died Wednesday, April 23, 1997, at Union Hospital in Dover after an extended illness. HARRIS, Edna Annie Walker, 85, of Blacksburg, died Tuesday night, April 22, 1997, in a Shawsville nursing home. She was a long-time resident of Richmond and a recent resident of Showalter Retirement Center. Surviving are two daughters and son-in-law, Gail and Jim Boyd, Colorado Springs, Colo., Norma Lee Vishneski, Newport News; two sisters and two brothers; six grandchildren; and nine great-grand children. She is also survived by two close friends, Bernie and Chris Vishneski, Shawsville. McANALLY, James Wesley, Sr., 73, of Hollins, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 1997 after a six month battle with cancer. He was born in Varina, Va. on March 23, 1924 and was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. He was a WWII Army veteran, where he served in the South Pacific on several fronts. He was retired from the clothing business, after 30 years, and for the last two years, he pursued his love of antiques and operated Mac's Antiques from a booth at Happy's Flea Market. He is survived by his wife, Edith Juanita McAnally; sons, William Russell McAnally, Troutville, James Wesley McAnally, Jr. and fiancee, Dana Jones, Blue Ridge; granddaughter, Christina Lynn McAnally, Roanoke; brother, Charles Phillip McAnally, Petersburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 1997, at the Rader Daleville Chapel. Interment will follow in the Old Dominion Memorial Gardens. McKINNEY, Charlie Haze, (``Mac""), 81, of Salem, passe d away Wednesday, April 23, 1997. He was an area resident of Salem for many years and was retired from the Virginian and N & W Railroads after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Locust Grove United Methodist Church and Eggleston Masonic Lodge #309. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Kathleen S. McKinney of 33 years and three sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Lillian H. McKinney; one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy M. and Ray C. Lester, Goodview; one grandson, C. Dameon Lester of Illinois; one graddaughter, Amy Kathleen Lester of Harrisonburg; one stepson and daughter-in-law, L. George and Pat McKinney, Salem; one stepgrandson, Sam McKinney, Salem; one stepgranddaughter, Elizabeth McKinney of Salem; sister, Mabel M. Walker of Narrows. PRESCOTT, George S., 46, formerly of Bland County, died Wednesday, April 16, 1997, in Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg. Born in Bluefield, W.Va., he was the former manage r of the Nature Food Centre in the Spotsylvania Mall. He was an avid sportsman, having played on various local softball teams, coached women's softball, and refereed youth and adult basketball games. He was also a member of the Fredericksburg Eagles Aerie No. 4123. Survivors include his wife, Faith M. Prescott; his mother and stepfather, Loretta and Paige Welsh, Four Oaks, N.C.; his father and stepmother, George and Genevieve Prescott, Christiansburg; sister, Carol Loye, Greensboro, N.C.; brother, Reginald Prescott, Benson, N.C.; maternal grandparents, Jessie Mae and Ellis Myers, Bland County. SANDERS, Edwin Bradley, 86, of Chilhowie, died Tuesday, April 22, 1997, at his home. A lifelong resident of Chilhowie, Mr. Sanders first pursued a career in his hometown as Postmaster and rural mail carrier. After retirement, his public service in Chilhowie continued, as Chairman of the Planning Commission, member of Town Council, and Mayor. He was a lifelong member of the Seven Mile Ford Presbyterian Church, and was active in the Chilhowie Masonic Lodge #250 A.F. & A.M., and the Chilhowie Lions Club. Mr. Sanders was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Sydnor Sanders. Survivors include one son, Rev. E. Benjamin Sanders, Louisville, Ky.; one daughter, Mrs. Thomas S. (Betsy) Slemmer, Redlands, Calif.; one sister, Carlotta S. Franklin, Delray Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Seven Mile Ford Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Timothy E. Bird officiating. THORNTON, Prince Edward, Sr., 87, of 6691 Boones Mill Rd., Boones Mill, died Tuesday, April 22, 1997. He was born May 4, 1909, in Glen Lyn, Va., the son of the late Samuel Clinton and Mabel Carr Thornton, of Princeton, West Virginia. Mr. Thornton was preceded in death by Josephine Roles Thornton, wife of 62 years; grandson, Prince Edward Thornton III; and sister, Evamae Beckner. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Matthews Thornton. He was a loving father to Joyce and Bill Almond, Ed and Bev Thornton, Peg and D. B. Martin; and stepfather to Patty and Tom Watts and Ruth Dennis. He was grandfather to Eddie and Sharlene, Billy, Bobby, Johnny and Valerie Almond, Lori, Danny and Donna Thornton, Vikki and Dave Funck, Sammy and Helen, Timmy and Kristen, Davy and Sonya Martin. He was stepgrandfather to Barry and Jenny, Ed, Fred, Robert, Susan and Richard Dennis, Kelly and Bobby Hood, Kim and Allen Leonard. He had 20 great-grandchildren. He is also survied by a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. Thornton was an honor graduate of Concord College, Athens, West Virginia, and was employed by Appalachian Power Company for 31 years, beginning as a meter reader in Pri nceton, West Virginia, and retired in 1974 as Division Administrative Assistant in the Roanoke division. Prior to this, he was a teacher and principal in the West Virginia public schools. Mr. Thornton was an active member of Red Valley United Methodist Church, served on the Board of Directors of Goodwill for 20 years, past chairman of the United Fund of Roanoke Valley, and also a long time member of the Lions and Ruritan Clubs. He also served as a member of the Franklin County Planning Commission and was a charter member of the Burnt Chimney Volunteer Fire Department. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, at the Red Valley United Methodist Church, with the Reverend James Opetaia-Williamson and the Rev. A. Ray Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Red Valley Cemetery. WILSON, Guida Phibbs, 82, of Fries, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 1997 in Twin County Regional Hospital. She was born in Grayson County on September 4, 1914 to Charles Oscar Phibbs and Columbia Horton Phibbs. In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her husband, Harry L. Wilson. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Dixie Lee Wilson, Nancy and Mike Phipps, all of Fries; 4 brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Anne Phibbs, Clifton and Louise Phibbs, John and Faye Phibbs, all of Fries, Foy and Ruby Phibbs, Chilhowie; two sisters-in-laws, Grace Phibbs, Galax, and Cathy Phibbs, Mt.
