THE PEOPLE COLUMN

Ellen DeGeneres says she was thrown out of the house after she told her father and stepmother that she was gay.

``The woman he's married to has two daughters, and they asked me to move out of the house after that,'' DeGeneres said in an interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer scheduled to air tonight. ``They just thought it would be better for me to, you know, live somewhere else.''

DeGeneres' interview airs on ABC's ``20/20,'' five days before her character in her television show, ``Ellen,'' comes out as a lesbian.

Her first homosexual experience at age 18 was with her best friend, DeGeneres said. ``We saw each other - you know, we both had boyfriends and we were double-dating,'' she said. ``But we were together. Nobody knew.''

|--| Vince Gill's wife, Janis, has filed for divorce in Nashville. The two multitalented musicians were married 17 years and have a daughter, Jennifer, 14.

Janis Gill is one-half of the Sweethearts of the Rodeo duo, along with her sister, Kristine Arnold.

In separate interviews over a period of years, they both talked about how a two-career touring couple has to juggle child-rearing responsibilities and still find some time to themselves.
