PUTTING HEALING BACK IN RELIGION

There are two simple requirements for those who want to attend the healing service to be held this week in Radford: Believe that God wants all of creation to be whole, physically and spiritually, and be willing to pray for that healing.

The New River Valley Ecumenical Healing Ministry, which has been studying together weekly for about a year, invites the community to join an exploration of healing, both physical and spiritual, in a Scripture-based setting. The study group of about 15 members will offer a healing service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Episcopal Church, 210 Fourth St., Radford.

This ministry began during the Lenten season last year after a guest minister, the Rev. Rufus Womble, spoke about the Order of St. Luke, a national and international organization of Christians intent on bringing healing back into mainline organized religion. Several people wanted to continue learning about the healing miracles of Jesus and about group healing. Composed of members from several denominations and members of the clergy, the group has been meeting to study and pray together.

"It's a great group; it's the greatest blessing of my life to be involved with it," said Meredith Bowman of Grace Episcopal.

The service will include prayer for healing in general, with an opportunity for prayer for individuals. Leaders for the service will be Marsha Dubose and Marty White, and ministers are the Rev. Jim Grealish of St. Jude's Catholic Church and the Revs. Jim and Krista Workman of Grace Episcopal. Call 639-4422, 639-3494, or 639-5341 for more information.
