Cable employees vote 321-149 for union at TFC

CHATHAM - Times Fiber Communications Inc. employees have voted in favor of union representation by the United Steelworkers of America.

The vote was 321-149, the National Labor Relations Board said.

Company officials declined to comment on Thursday's vote.

Asked if he thought the company would appeal, union organizer Fred Stroud said: ``It makes no difference what they do. The United Steelworkers are going to stand behind these employees if it goes to court. We've fought too hard to turn back now.''

TFC employees had voted 270-246 in May to reject union representation. The NLRB ordered a new election after finding that the company engaged in surveillance during the May election and moved an employee to a different job because he supported the union.

The company manufactures coaxial cable for the telecommunications industry.

Ice cream sandwiches recalled over peanuts

WASHINGTON - A Wisconsin company is recalling up to 27,000 ice cream sandwiches because some may contain peanuts, posing a life-threatening risk to people allergic to the nuts.

At issue are Popsicle Vanilla Flavored Ice Cream Sandwiches, distributed nationwide by Good Humor-Breyers Ice Cream.

Consumers who bought individual ice cream sandwiches should check for the code ``Plant 24-0011'' located directly below the Good Humor-Breyers address on the package, the company said Friday.

Retailers should check the shipping cases for the following suspect product codes: 348 6 SP1, 009 7 SP1 and HG041 97 2411 SP1&2.

People allergic to peanuts should not consume the suspect ice cream sandwiches, the Food and Drug Administration said.

Consumers may call Good Humor-Breyers for further information at (800) 810-8660.
