GEORGE B. PARSONS

{LEAD} George Barr Parsons, 78, of the 4800 block of Manor Ave., a retired calibrator, died May 31, 1994, in his residence.

Mr. Parsons was born in Portsmouth and was retired from St. Julians Creek Ammunition Depot. He was a member of Port Norfolk Baptist Church, Moose Lodge (NU)898, Portsmouth Amateur Radio Club and founder and director of the XYZ Band.

{REST} Survivors include his wife, Thelma Bowen Parsons; one son, Milton Barr Parsons of Virginia Beach; two brothers, William Asbury Parsons Jr. of Baltimore and Carroll Thomas Parsons of Portsmouth; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Janice Smith of Portsmouth and Karen Watkins of Winchester, Va.; and one stepson, Craig Upton of Fishersville, Va.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Centenary United Methodist Church by the Rev. Donald H. Seely, the Rev. Clara P. Gestwick and Dr. Ector Hamrick. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, Port Norfolk Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
