He was born in Felton, Del., and served in Army during World War II in the South Pacific. After the war, he was with the Veterans Hospital in Salem, Va., for several years, came to Virginia Beach in 1950 and was associated with the old Virginia Beach Hospital on 25th Street until 1964. He then went with the City of Chesapeake as an appraiser, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Virginia Beach where he was an Elder and Deacon.
{REST} He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Eleanor Norris Killen of the residence; six daughters, Ersel K. Buckley Sharp of London, England, Sarah K. Holmes, Alice K. Ward, Kathryn H. Killen and Eleanor W. Breckenridge, all of Virginia Beach, and Mary K. Smith of Cottage Grove, Minn.; two sons, Dr. Joseph F. Killen Jr. of Virginia Beach and Dr. Harvey C. Woodruff III of Newport News; one brother, Howard H. Killen of Milford, Del.; and nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Jane Spessard Killen in 1975.
A memorial service will be conducted Thursday, June 2, 1994, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the First Presbyterian Church of Virginia Beach, Pacific Ave. at 36th St. by Dr. J. Scottie Griffin. Private burial will be at a later date. The family will receive friends in Maestas Funeral Home, Baltic Avenue Chapel, tonight from 7:30 until 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad Building Fund, P.O. Box 945, Virginia Beach, Va. 23451.
