AREA RESIDENTS WIN AWARDS AT ART SHOW

{LEAD} The theme of the seventh annual ``Flower and Art Show'' at The Wakefield Foundation Center For the Arts is ``The Elegance of Form and Flowers.''

The artwork and floral designs of about 300 individuals are featured.

{REST} The Best-in-Show Award was presented last week to John C. Thornton of Wakefield.

Other area award winners:

Amateur Drawing Division - first place, Judy Rogers, Zuni.

Amateur Painting Division in oil and acrylics - first place, Betty Owen, Wakefield; second place, Leonora Channing, Newsoms; third place, Alan Pulley, Suffolk; honorable mention, Carolyn Mason-Taylor, Smithfield.

Amateur Sculpture Division - first place, John C. Thornton, Wakefield.

Student Art Division - first place, Beth E. Hobbs, Suffolk; honorable mention, Paul Riggs, Surry.

Student Sculpture Division - Milton Shaw, Dendron.

Professional Watercolor Division - Polly Rowell Forbes, Murfreesboro.

Professional Drawing Division - second place, Glenn Edward Knight, Smithfield.

Professional Sculpture Division - honorable mention, Jim Arrington of Windsor and Tommy Knight of Ivor.

\ Another competition at The Wakefield Foundation Center For the Arts involves a Senior High School Art Exhibit.

April Thomas of Surry County High School was a second-place winner.

Certificates of honorable mention were presented to Tiffany Mitchell, Clifford Redstone and Gowon Smith of Surry County High School, Shandell Brown of Sussex Central High School and Russell Bryant and Jobie Romines of Southampton High School.
