Twice in five years Lawrence J. Parks, now 47, sexually assaulted the girl while living in Virginia Beach, police said. The stepdaughter recently reported the assaults to Chesapeake school officials, who told police.
{REST} Her name is not being released because The Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger-Star do not print the names of sexual assault victims without their permission. The alleged victim told police she wanted her name withheld, but wanted her stepfather identified.
Parks, of the 300 block of San Roman Court in Chesapeake, is a teacher at Chesapeake Alternative School. He is at least the ninth Chesapeake teacher or administrator accused of a sex crime involving minors in three years.
Detective T.E. Lewis said Parks turned himself in Wednesday after the detective interviewed him. Lewis said the teacher is cooperating with the investigation.
According to police, the assaults began in February 1982 and ended five years later when the girl was 17. The alleged victim is now 25.
Parks was charged with two counts of rape, two counts of sodomy and one count of aggravated sexual battery. He was released on a $10,000 bond.
