POLICE VETERAN INDICTED

{LEAD} A grand jury on Wednesday indicted a 20-year police veteran on charges of bribery and having sex with a teenager, court records show.

Officer Chester P. Crowe was charged with crimes against nature, bribery and two counts of soliciting for a felony.

{REST} On May 10, Crowe was suspended indefinitely without pay, pending a trial, police officials said. An internal investigation is continuing.

On April 16, Crowe allegedly engaged in sodomy with a 17-year-old girl. The girl's father found out and alerted police, officers said. Crowe also was accused of taking a bribe, trying to persuade the girl to commit bribery and asking the girl to engage in sodomy.
