Mr. Herring was born in Richmond, Va., son of the late Cmdr. I.L. Herring and Murton Trent Herring. He was retired from the NOB Police as a lieutenant after 20 years of service. He was a member of Baylake United Methodist Church and was past president of Fraternal Order of Police, Sewells Point Lodge (NU)28, Norfolk.
{REST} Survivors include one son, Thomas Trent Herring Jr.; one brother, Richard Ingram Herring, and his wife, Cheryl M. Herring; and one granddaughter, Brittnie Bowers Herring, all of Virginia Beach; and one aunt, Lois Trent Creech of Raleigh, N.C.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Baylake United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at 3749 Pendleton Ave., Virginia Beach. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, is handling arrangements.
