FUEL CLEANUP

{LEAD} Coast Guard pollution teams were completing cleanup operations today on the Intracoastal Waterway at North Landing Road where about 100 gallons of jet fuel leaked from a barge.

The leak was reported about 5 a.m. Thursday as the 225-foot barge was docking at Standard Transpipe Co. The leak, beneath the waterline, was stopped by 7:30 a.m., the Coast Guard said.

{REST} The waterway, which carries marine traffic north and south, was closed five miles south of the Great Bridge Locks. It reopened later Thursday.
