Mrs. Amelson, a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk, was the widow of Theodore Amelson, and was preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. Leonard L. Berman. She was a member of Congregation Beth El in Norfolk; a member and past prsident of its Sisterhood; Hadassah; past president of the Hebrew Ladies Charity Society; founding trustee of Beth Sholom Home of Virginia; former member of the board of Jewish Family Services; and a member of many civic and charitable organizations.
{REST} Survivors include three daughters, Phyllis Berman Kaplan and her husband, Dr. Arthur S. Kaplan, of Norfolk, Arlene Berman Kesser and her husband, Dr. Howard L. Kesser, of Norfolk, and Suzanne Berman Goldberg of Bethesda, Md.; one sister, Mrs. Bernard Raymond of Norfolk; one brother, S. David Cohen of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A Temple service was conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Beth El Congregation by Rabbi Arthur Ruberg, Rabbi Lawrence A. Forman and Cantor Jacob Tessler. Burial was in the Berman family plot at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, handled arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hebrew Ladies Charity Society. The family will be at 213 Brackenridge Ave., Norfolk.
