OFF-DUTY POLICE OFFICER FINDS SLAYING VICTIM

{LEAD} An off-duty police officer who heard gunshots while he was working security at a convenience store Friday night found a 20-year-old man nearby who was shot in the head.

The victim, Andre Lamont Holley of the 2800 block of Deep Creek Blvd., died at 10:30 p.m. at Portsmouth General Hospital.

{REST} About 8:56 p.m., while working at the Quick Shop store in the 2800 block of Columbus Ave., the officer heard gunshots in the area of nearby Lincoln Park, police said. Shortly after, a man came into the store and told the officer someone had been shot.

The officer went to the first block of Lexington Drive, where he found Holley.

Police have no motive or suspects in the slaying.
