CRIME LINE

{LEAD} Local police are seeking public assistance in solving these cases:

\ NORFOLK

{REST} On Saturday, May 14, at 6:30 a.m., a man walked into the Tinee Giant store at 2013 Lafayette Blvd. near Tidewater Drive.

He demanded money from the cashier, who refused to give it. The suspect left the store.

The suspect's picture was captured on the store security camera.

He is described as black, in his late 20s or early 30s, 5 feet 9 inches tall and about 150 pounds. He had short hair, a goatee and was wearing blue jeans and a green Army camouflage jacket.

\ VIRGINIA BEACH

On Monday, April 25, at 10 a.m., the Texaco station in the 1900 block of Laskin Road at Regency Drive was robbed by a man with a small, semiautomatic pistol.

Detectives are looking for the suspect depicted in a composite drawing.

He is described as white, in his 20s, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, 170 pounds, with brown hair that is possibly wavy. At the time he was wearing a blue jacket, sunglasses and a baseball cap.

He was last seen running into the woods next to the station.

\ PORTSMOUTH

On Friday evening, May 20, shortly after 11 p.m., police were called to the 100 block of Deep Creek Blvd. They found Eric Moreland, 29, lying in the road with several gunshot wounds to the head.

Moreland was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are still seeking a motive and the person or people responsible for the slaying.

\ SUFFOLK

On April 5, about midnight, Herman White of the 900 block of Truman Road had just gotten home and parked his truck.

As he got out of the truck, he was approached by a man armed with a black revolver who demanded everything White had.

White gave the suspect his brown leather wallet. The suspect fled toward 6th Street and possibly got into a gray, midsized car.

The suspect is described as black, in his 20s, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, with black hair, brown eyes and dark skin.

\ HAMPTON

Malik Abduullah Gordon, 19, also known as ``David,'' is wanted on charges of robbery and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

He is described as black and 150 pounds. His last known address is 22nd Street in Newport News.

Linwood Byrd Jr., 23, also known as ``Birdman,'' is wanted on charges of distribution of cocaine and conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

He is described as black, 6 feet 2 inches tall and 170 pounds. Byrd's last known address is Shell Road in Hampton.

\ CHESAPEAKE

On April 29, Michael Riddick was riding his bicycle on Bethel Road and Algona Road in South Norfolk when he was approached by a man identified as Issac Sampson, 20.

The suspect initiated a conversation with the victim and subsequently started assaulting him, police say.

The suspect is described as black, 5 feet 9 inches tall and 175 pounds.
