FIREFIGHTER DIES AT STATION

{LEAD} A Newport News firefighter found unconscious at a fire station Saturday afternoon later died at a hospital.

The man, Anthony Covas, 42, of Hampton, was in the television room at Fire Station Number 4, which is across from Newport News Park, when a fellow firefighter found him slumped in a chair about 5:30 p.m., according to Lynn James, Fire Department spokeswoman.

{REST} CPR was begun and Covas was transported to Mary Immaculate Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:04 p.m.

James said an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of Covas' death.
