ONE DEAD, 2 HURT IN HEAD-ON BRIDGE-TUNNEL CRASH

{LEAD} A 41-year-old man died and two others, including an infant, were trapped in their vehicle with critical injuries Sunday afternoon after a head-on collision at the north end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel.

The accident occurred about 4:05 p.m. at the 17-mile marker near Fisherman's Island, said Lorraine Smith, spokeswoman for the bridge-tunnel.

{REST} The accident occurred when a Honda Accord traveling northbound in the southbound lane collided head-on with a Toyota Celica.

The driver of the Toyota, Michael Franklin Martin of Colesville, who was alone in his car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Honda was driven by Marsha S. McGhee, 20, of Tampa, Fla.

The infant was a passenger in McGhee's car.

Authorities blocked off traffic so a Nightingale air ambulance could land on the bridge to evacuate the woman and infant.

A rescue squad member said the injured had to be extricated.
