LLOYD C. BRIGGS

{LEAD} Lloyd Chester Briggs, 85, of Route 1, died Monday, June 6, 1994, in Chowan Hospital, Edenton.

Mr. Briggs was born in Perquimans County to the late Willie and Mrs. Fannie Stallings Briggs. He was the retired owner and operator of Lloyd Briggs General Merchandise in the Gliden community of Chowan County. He was a member of Warwick Baptist Church, the Edward G. Bond Post 40 of the American Legion, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Some 20 years ago, Mr. Briggs built the first rescue squad building in the Gliden community and for that contribution he was elected an honorary lifetime member of the Edenton-Chowan Rescue Squad, Unit 2, in May 1993.

{REST} Surviving are his wife, Mattie Spivey Briggs, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Warwick Baptist Church by the Rev. Thomas Hupp. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family at the residence.
