PEOPLE AND PLACES

{LEAD} The Norfolk Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. held its annual awards breakfast in honor of B. Courtney McBath, pastor of Calvary Revival Church,McBath and 24 seniors from Norfolk high schools.

McBath was cited for making ``a profound impact on the Tidewater area and the community at large.'' Among his accomplishments were establishing mentoring programs for disadvantaged youth, such as the ``My Brother's Keeper'' and ``Ladies With A Mission'' programs. He was also recently selected to serve on Gov. George Allen's Commission on Citizen Empowerment.

{REST} The sorority presented its Grace Branchcomb Perkins Public Service Award to Juanita Smith of Granby High School, Felicia Fields of Lake Tayor High School, Arlette Jackson of Maury High School, Erica Basnight of Norview High School, and Stephanie Gore of Booker T. Washington High School.

Certificates of recognition were presented to Karen Miller, Tiffany Nesbit, Dorian Spinelli and Melissa Vigenski, all of Granby; Jennifer Kelly, LaTonya Lewis and Tiffany Parker of Lake Taylor High; Rochelle Fuller, Misty Goodson, Cashena Mingo, and Latrice Walker, all of Maury; Joy Alexander, Monica French, Tamara Wilson and Elizabeth Young, all of Norview; and Marsha Galicia, Rosalynn King, LaRana Lamb, and Lishena Mebane, all of Booker T. Washington.

Jane Gardner, an anchor/reporter for WTKR and a Norfolk resident, was appointed as a continuing member of the Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast Board of Directors. Gardner will serve a two-year term.

CAMPUS NOTES

William K. Ginnow, a 27-year health care veteran with a background in managed care health programs, has been named associate dean for health affairs at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Before coming to EVMS, Ginnow was an executive for nine years with Group Health Plan, a St. Louis health maintenance organization.

Matthew E. Malone, a junior at Hampden-Sydney College, was awarded the Jeffrey N. Friend Award during the final convocation ceremony in April. The award is bestowed annually upon the student who best typifies the qualities for which Jeffrey Friend is remembered: generosity of spirit and kindliness, selfless demeanor, and for dignity and honor. Malone is the son of Phyllis Malone.

Kimberly F. Ribaudo of Norfolk received Sophomore Honors at St. Andrews College in Laurinburg, N.C. To receive the honor, a student must have a 3.25 grade point average.

Robert T. Kuehl of Norfolk was honored as a member of the Eta Sigma Phi classics honor society at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.
