GROUP TO TRACE HISTORY OF PRAISE MUSIC \

{LEAD} VOCALIST LORI ANN HORNE and pianist Rose Marie Lauck, known as ``The Wings of Praise,'' will perform at Magnolia United Methodist Church's 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship services Sunday.

Horne and Lauck, who live in Winchester, describe their performances as both educational and ministerial.

{REST} The 40-minute program of music will include everything from classical to gospel and contemporary songs.

``The Wings of Praise'' will trace praise in music from its earliest beginnings in Gregorian Chants to contemporary Christian styles.

``I hope this group can help our church see on a big scale where we've come from in praise music,'' said Toni Cotturone, director of music ministries at Magnolia United Methodist.

Cotturone said music is a vibrant part of worship within the Magnolia ministry.

Nearly 100 members of the church are involved in its five choirs or other musical efforts.

``I believe music plays an extremely vital role in opening people's hearts to the presence of God and preparing them for the spoken Word,'' Cotturone said.

Horne, a soprano, is a graduate of the Shenandoah University Conservatory of Music and is currently in the master's program at the school.

She is a former Miss Hampton-Newport News and Miss Apple Blossom Festival, and she won the Talent Competition at the Miss Virginia Scholarship Pageant in 1989 and 1991.

Horne has been a soloist with the Denver Opera and has performed throughout Virginia and in Washington. She is director of three handbell groups at the First Presbyterian Church in Winchester.

She is also a choral graduate assistant at Shenandoah University.

Lauck also is a graduate of the Shenandoah University Conservatory. She has a bachelor's degree in history and a Certificate of Piano Pedagogy.

She is employed part-time at a Winchester newspaper and as an accompanist and piano instructor at the university.

Lauck's performances have included classical music and musical theater, as well as gospel. She is actively involved in music at the College Park Church of Christ in Winchester.
