He was a native of Creswell, N.C., and had retired with 20 years of service from the U.S. Navy as a chief hosptal corpsman. He had also retired after 24 years of service as a manager of Peoples Drug Store. He was a member of St. Mark's by the Sea Episcopal Church, Virginia Beach, and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
{REST} He is survived by his wife, Trudy B. Davenport; two daughters, Amy Lynn Zohner of Phoenix, Ariz., and Claudia Denham of Woodbridge, Va.; five sons, Larry Dains of Long Beach, Miss., Steven A. Davenport of Lewisville, Tex., Tracy A. Davenport and Eric S. Davenport, both of Virginia Beach, and Craig B. Davenport of Norfolk; three sisters, Lucy Wilkins of Garner, N.C., Louise Phelps of Plymouth, N.C., and Marie Wood of Norfolk, Va.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Rosewood Memorial Park Cemetery, Virginia Beach, by Father Glenn Bock. The family will be at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, today from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's by the Sea Episcopal Church, P.O.
