YOUTH DIES OF INJURIES

{LEAD} YOUTH DIES OF INJURIES: A teenager, who was struck by a car Tuesday while playing on Western Freeway near the Cedar Lane underpass in Portsmouth, died Wednesday in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Hospital spokeswoman Debby Myers said Corey Mutter, 16, of the 4200 block of Morgate Lane, died of head injuries at 11:15 a.m.

{REST} Mutter and three other youths had been running across the freeway when Mutter was struck at 6:30 p.m., police said.

BABY DIES: POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING THE DEATH OF A 10-MONTH-OLD BOY, WHO WAS FOUND UNCONSCIOUS ON WEDNESDAY IN HIS PARENTS' APARTMENT IN THE 9600 BLOCK OF MASON CREEK ROAD.

NORFOLK POLICE RESPONDED TO A CALL AT 8:37 A.M., REPORTING THAT THE INFANT, CALABE E. URBAN, WAS IN CARDIAC ARREST. THE CHILD WAS TAKEN TO DEPAUL MEDICAL CENTER, WHERE HE WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD ON ARRIVAL.

THE BOY'S PREGNANT MOTHER AND STEPFATHER, DONNA AND CHRISTOPHER SAVAGE, WERE QUESTIONED AND RELEASED, SAID POLICE SPOKESMAN LARRY HILL. INVESTIGATORS ARE WAITING FOR THE AUTOPSY REPORTS TO DETERMINE HOW THE BABY DIED. NO CHARGES HAVE BEEN FILED.

MAN PLEADS GUILTY: A MAN ACCUSED OF HOLDING HIS FORMER GIRLFRIEND HOSTAGE LAST YEAR AND SHOOTING HER MOTHER IN THE HAND WAS FOUND GUILTY IN A PLEA AGREEMENT WEDNESDAY.

EDWARD R. DELROSARIO, 21, PLEADED GUILTY TO MALICIOUS WOUNDING, ABDUCTION, BURGLARY AND TWO COUNTS OF USE OF A FIREARM. ACCORDING TO THE TERMS OF THE PLEA AGREEMENT, HE CAN BE SENTENCED TO NO MORE THAN 15 YEARS IN PRISON.

ON SEPT. 5, DELROSARIO BARRICADED HIMSELF IN HIS EX-GIRLFRIEND'S HOME IN THE 300 BLOCK OF LOUVICK STREET AND HELD HER HOSTAGE FOR SEVERAL HOURS. HE EARLIER HAD SHOT THE GIRL'S MOTHER IN HER HAND DURING AN ARGUMENT. THE EX-GIRLFRIEND WASN'T HURT.

THE STANDOFF WAS RESOLVED AFTER POLICE NEGOTIATORS PERSUADED DELROSARIO TO SURRENDER HIS GUN. DELROSARIO WILL BE SENTENCED AUG. 19.
