Leonard, a University of Texas senior who last week won the NCAA individual title, has accepted an invitation, tournament director Johnnie Bender said Wednesday. Leonard announced he was turning pro following the NCAA Championships.
{REST} Leonard, a four-time NCAA All-American, tied the NCAA tournament record with his 17-under-par performance last week. He also won the 1992 U.S. Amateur and was a four-time Southwest Conference champion. Leonard was the top-ranked amateur in the U.S. over the last two years.
Bender also said Wednesday that she would extend sponsor's exemptions to Virginia State Amateur champion David Partridge of Richmond and Richmond-based pros Bobby Wadkins and Robert Wrenn, if they need them.
