TUNNEL TO CLOSE FOR PART OF WEEKEND

{LEAD} The Midtown Tunnel will be closed for a significant portion of this weekend as workers resurface the Martin Luther King Freeway in Portsmouth.

The tunnel, which runs between Portsmouth and Norfolk, will be blocked in both directions beginning midnight Friday. It is scheduled to remain closed until about 9 p.m. Saturday.

{REST} Motorists should plan on using the Downtown Tunnel as an alternative route. Signs noting the closing and detours will be posted.
