The only local game pits region champion Great Bridge against Central runner-up Monacan (17-4) at 5:30 at Princess Anne High.
{REST} Eastern runner-up Western Branch (19-5) plays at Midlothian (19-2) at the same time.
The winner of the Great Bridge-Monacan game will be the home team in a semifinal Tuesday against the Western Branch-Midlothian victor.
Eight of the 33 defeats suffered by these quarterfinalists came in head-to-head meetings.
Great Bridge will send lefthander Stacey Adamson (16-5-1) to the mound. Monacan coach Keith Daniels is undecided whether he will start Paula Shires (8-2) or Katie Moss (9-1).
The Wildcats are led by catcher Marni Magyar, a .500 hitter, and outfielder Emily Ouzts, who has a .378 average.
Monacan's mainstays are shortstop Michelle Meadows (.500), outfielder Meredith Gompf (.339) and catcher Heather Morris, who has thrown out 10 would-be base stealers.
Righthander Nicole Belote (12-3) will pitch for Western Branch. She will be opposed by Nicki Patton, who has won her last five starts. Three of those were shutouts. Patton has pitched one no-hitter and four two-hit games.
The batting leaders for Western Branch are first baseman Calee Morris (.500), third baseman Jennifer Sayko (.435) and outfielder Jaci Morris (.362).
Midlothian's premier player is shortstop Jenny McIntyre, who has signed with Penn State. McIntyre, a four-year starter, batted .547.
First baseman Katie Mills (.487) and outfielder Julie Smith (.400) are the other top hitters for the Trojans.
The state playoffs are single-elimination. Tuesday's winners will meet next Friday for the state crown. by CNB
