DANVILLE MAY LOSE AIR CARRIER

{LEAD} The only commercial airline serving Danville Regional Airport isn't making any money in the city and wants to discontinue the flights. CCAIR, which contracts with Charlotte, N.C.-based USAir Express, hopes to be out of Danville by Aug. 31, said Mike Holcomb, CCAIR/USAir Express director of marketing.

Danville is one of 22 small airports in the nation likely to lose so-called essential air service subsidies from the federal government. In Danville's case, the subsidy is in danger because the airport is too close to an airline hub, the Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro.
