FOOD WORKERS UNION HOPE TO REPRESENT FARM FRESH EMPLOYEES

{LEAD} The United Food and Commercial Workers Union, which has tried to organize Farm Fresh Inc. workers in Hampton Roads, has stepped up efforts to organize about 2,500 employees at The Grocery Store. Norfolk-based Farm Fresh operates 16 stores in the Richmond area under the name The Grocery Store. Many of The Grocery Store employees were union members before Farm Fresh bought area stores from the Safeway Inc. chain. The union says it expects to get enough signatures from employees to hold an election by the end of the year.
