STATE PANEL SEEKS IDEAS TO HELP NEIGHBORHOODS

{LEAD} The General Assembly's Virginia Housing Study Commission is looking for ideas on fighting neighborhood blight.

The commission will hold its Hampton Roads public hearing on housing issues at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Anderson Auditorium at the administration building of Christopher Newport University in Newport News.

{REST} Other key topics being considered include prevention of homelessness, local occupancy-permit inspections, mortgage-lending priorities, nonprofit housing groups, and health and safety in rental property now exempt from the state's Landlord-Tenant Act.

The commission introduces housing legislation to the General Assembly every year.
