Mrs. James was born in Norfolk. She was the widow of Willie E. James and was a member of St. Thomas AMEZ Church, Norfolk.
{REST} Survivors include three daughters, Ruby J. Hassell of Chesapeake, Joyce James of Norfolk and Edith Shannon of Chesapeake; a stepson, Willie Howard of North Carolina; two sons, Michael James of Petersburg and Patrick James of Norfolk; two brothers, Lora Hinton of Chesapeake and Willie Hinton of Norfolk; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday in St. Thomas AMEZ Church, Norfolk, by the Rev. G.L. Scott. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Pretlows Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the church. Family and friends will assemble at 1410 Melon St., Norfolk, at 11:15 am. Wednesday for the processional to the church. They will receive friends at the church following the service.
