He was the husband of Helen Sturgis Taylor and the son of Agnes Hartman and Asa Carroll Taylor of Temperanceville.
{REST} After graduating from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, he was the principal of Wachapreague Elementary School. He later joined Larus and Brother Company as a sales representative. During his career in the tobacco business, he lived in Salisbury, Md., Philadelphia, Evanston, Ill., and Richmond. When he retired, he moved back to his native Eastern Shore.
During World War II, he worked closely with the Quartermaster Corps in Chicago developing a food ration package that would also hold cigarettes for soldiers. At that time, he also sold War Bonds in Evanston, receiving the first place award.
In 1967, he was named Man of the Year by the Philadelphia Retail Tobacco Dealers. He was a past president of the Pipe and Tobacco Council of America, a past president of the Richmond Sales and Marketing Executives and a life member of Pi Sigma Epsilon business fraternity.
He served as financial chairman of the Eastern Shore Yacht and Country Club in 1972. He received the Distinguished President's Award from the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce in 1983 and the Chamber's Outstanding Citizen Award in 1985.
He was a member of the Eastern Shore Historical Society and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. He served as a trustee of the Belle Haven Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Masonic Lodge (NU)0116.
Besides his wife, Mr. Taylor is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Peter B. Paschall of Belle Haven and Mrs. Michael Johnson of Hardyville; four grandchildren, Peter B. Paschall Jr. of Belle Haven, Richard A. Paschall of Atlanta,, Meg Stevenson Larabee II of Flint, Mich., and Lee T. Stevenson of Columbia, Md.; three great-grandsons; and one sister, Grace Taylor Wehner of Catonsville, Md.
A funeral service will be held at the Belle Haven Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, June 15, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. James Keezel officiating. Interment will be in the Belle Haven Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Doughty Funeral Home, Exmore.
