ELDER STATESMAN OF VOLLEYBALL WINS HIS 4TH GOLD MEDAL

{LEAD} Virginia Beach's elder statesman of volleyball - Harry Pincus - has done it again.

Pincus, playing for Team Mid-Atlantic Club 60 - recently won his fourth national gold medal. Pincus' team won in the 60s Division of the United States National Volleyball Championships in Tulsa, Okla.

{REST} The former lawyer won titles in 1990 and 1991 as a player/coach and in 1992 as a player.

The team was seeded seventh in pool play but finished first in its bracket. Mid-Atlantic lost to Oklahoma, but came back to win in the final, 15-6.

Virginia Beach players Bob Brothers and Rod Duckworth won golds in the 55s division, playing for the Mid-Atlantic Club 55.

Former Virginia Squires basketball player Neil Johnson of Virginia Beach won two silver medals - one in the 50s division playing with Just Volleyball and another in the 45s division playing with Club New England.

Kevin Moran, Dan Barrows and Rusty Tracy - all of the Beach - played for the Virginia Gentlemen in the 35s division, but they failed to make it to medal round competition.

MORE FOR MANDIE: First Colonial standout athlete Mandie Moore has been given the Virginia Beach Field Hockey, Ltd.'s first scholarship award.

The All-Beach District field hockey and softball player will receive $1,000.

Aside from her own athletic endeavors, Moore coaches a junior (11-12) team in the spring league and finds time to officiate.

And don't give her any grief about any of her calls as an official - she's also a black belt in karate.
