MAN SHOOTS, KILLS HIMSELF AT GUN RANGE

{LEAD} A 39-year-old man apparently committed suicide Tuesday night when he entered a gun shop, rented a handgun and shot himself at the indoor firing range.

Police spokesman Sgt. Donnie Moore said the man was found on the firing-range floor of A&P Arms at 104 W. Mercury Blvd. with a single gunshot wound to the face. He was discovered at 7:27 p.m. by patrons using the range.

{REST} The man died at 8:17 p.m. at Sentara Hampton General Hospital, Moore said.

Moore said the man, whose identity is being withheld, rented a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun after briefly browsing at the store.
